Important correction Regarding Vitamin D Resistant Rickets P 526

The topic of Vitamin D Rickets can be very confusing and we apologize for
any confusion we may have added. Despite our best efforts and having the
most talented technical reviewers available to us some errors do slip
through.

Regarding Page 526 , please note the following

The heading Vitamin D resistant Rickets should actually be X-linked
hypophosphatemia
P 526 Next to the first Buzz Word icon should be also seen in Fanconi’s
and Lowe Syndrome (not Fanconi anemia)

According to Nelsons pediatrics Vitamin D resistant Rickets is an old
term used in the past to describe rickets in which patient failed to
respond to a dose of vitamin D2 that would cure Vitamin D deficiency. If
Familial hypophosphatemia is treated with Vitamin D2 then hypervitaminosis
is the result.

Rather than the information in the 3 insider tips at the bottom of the
page please note the following

In X-linked familial hypophosphatemia it is important to note that

Serum calcium is normal or slightly reduced
Serum phosphate is reduced
Serum alkaline phosphatase levels should be high
Secondary hyperparathyroidism does NOT occur so PTH levels should be normal

In addition P 526 Next to the first Buzz Word icon should be also seen in
Fanconi’s and Lowe Syndrome (not Fanconi anemia)

P 527 Disregard the middle column
